Privacy Policy

Effective June 29, 2026 · Last updated June 29, 2026

Welcome. Here's the plain-language version of how Warm in the Dark handles your information. The short story: we collect as little as possible, we never sell it, and you can always ask us to delete it.

Warm in the Dark (the "Site"), at warminthedark.com, is published by Labile Media Group ("Labile Media Group," "we," "us," "our"), based in Tennessee, United States. We are responsible for the personal information described here, and we act as the data controller for readers in the EU and UK. By using the Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly

  • Your email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter.
  • Your name, email, and message, when you contact us or leave a comment.
  • Anything else you choose to send us.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device data through Google Analytics, such as pages viewed, time on the Site, approximate location, referring website, browser, device type, and IP address.
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see below).

Categories of personal information

Under laws like California's, the categories we may collect are: identifiers (name, email, IP address), internet and network activity (how you browse and interact with the Site), and approximate geolocation. We don't intentionally collect sensitive personal information, and we don't collect payment-card details (any purchases happen on third-party sites with their own systems).

How we use your information

  • To send the newsletter you asked for.
  • To respond to your messages and comments.
  • To understand what people read, so we can improve the Site and fix problems.
  • To keep the Site secure and prevent abuse.
  • To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never have.

Legal bases for processing (EU/UK readers)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases: your consent (for the newsletter and non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests (running, securing, and improving the Site, in a way that doesn't override your rights); and legal obligation (when the law requires it).

Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small files saved to your device. The Site uses three kinds:

  • Strictly necessary cookies that make the Site work.
  • Analytics cookies that help us see how the Site is used.
  • Affiliate cookies that record when you reach a retailer through one of our links (see the Affiliate Disclosure).

You can refuse or delete non-essential cookies through your browser settings or any cookie banner shown to you, though some features may not work as well. Because there's no agreed industry standard for "Do Not Track" signals, the Site doesn't currently respond to them.

Service providers and third parties

A few trusted services help us run the Site, and each has its own privacy practices:

  • Ghost, which powers the Site and sends the newsletter.
  • Google Analytics, which measures Site traffic.
  • Affiliate networks, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, which may set cookies when you use an affiliate link.
  • Embedded content (such as videos or social posts), which may collect data as though you visited that third party directly.

We share information with these providers only as needed to run the Site, or when required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep subscriber information until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Comments and messages are kept as long as they're useful or as required by law. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' own retention settings, currently 14 months.

How your data is protected

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no method of storage or transmission online is ever completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Where your data is processed

The Site is operated from the United States. If you visit from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from your own. By using the Site, you understand and consent to this transfer. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

Children's privacy

This Site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your privacy rights

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, and we don't use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what's permitted. You won't be treated differently for exercising these rights, and you may use an authorized agent to make a request.

EU and UK (GDPR)

If you're in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

Other US states

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and others) may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out. Contact us to exercise them.

How to make a request

Email hello@warminthedark.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we'll respond within the timeframe the law allows.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the dates above. Significant changes may also be noted in the newsletter.
